Funeral Services were held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church; Church Point, La. for Wilber J. Sonnier, 77. Mr. Sonnier, a life-long resident of Church Point, died at 7:00 A.M. Thursday, April 10, 2008 at his residence in Church Point. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc, assisted by Deacon Jim Cormier, conducted the services. Interment followed Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Church Point.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Marie Thibodeaux Sonnier of Church Point; two sons: Robert Sonnier and wife Sarah and Glenn Sonnier- both of Church Point; one daughter, Jo Ann Burleigh and husband Ron of Sunset, La.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are five sisters: Marie Sonnier and Mattie Sonnier- both of Church Point; Ethel Sonnier of Fort Smith, Arkansas; Betty Sparks of Peachtree City, Georgia and Clara Darbonne of Washington, La.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Oleus Sonnier and Isabelle Marie Thibodeaux Sonnier; one brother, Allen Sonnier and two sisters, Leora S. Oakley and Rose Williams.
Visiting hours were observed from 11:00 A.M. Friday until the time of the Funeral Mass, Saturday. A recitation of the Rosary was held at 7:00 PM on Friday by Deacon Jim Cormier.
Mr. Sonnier devoted his life to farming and served a tour of duty in the United States Army.
