Obituary

Church Point, LA:         A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 5, 2021 at Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point, LA for Wasyl "Chuck" Saichuk, 88. Mr. Saichuk, a native of Philadelphia, PA, and resident of rural St. Landry Parish near Washington, LA, passed away Tuesday, November 2 at his residence. Deacon Byrne Winn will officiate at the service and interment will be in the Monsignor Bienvenu Cemetery on Hwy 35 north of Church Point.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Tina Barousse Saichuk of Washington; his son, Johnny Saichuk and wife Suzette of Lafayette, LA; his niece, Sonia Delfino and husband Bob of Freehold, NJ; his grandson, John Saichuk and wife Sunnie and great-grandchildren, Nora Evelyn and James Minyard Saichuk-all of Lafayette and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Tessie Saichuk; a sister, Stephie D'Antonio; two godsons, Jacob Ryan Barousse and Terry Ray Bourque; a niece, Bonnee Bourque; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Johnny (Gertie) Barousse and a brother-in-law, Larry Perkins.

The family requests that visiting hours continue uninterrupted at Guidry Funeral Home from 4:00 PM Thursday, November 4 until the time of services on Friday. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 7:00 PM by Deacon Winn. Pallbearers will be John and Caleb Barousse; Bill, Sam and Willie Quirk; Cody Bourque and Johnny Saichuk. Born to a Ukrainian father who immigrated to the U.S. in 1919, Mr. Saichuk was raised in a Philadelphia suburb. Graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict as a helicopter/aircraft mechanic; a trade he pursued in civilian life. Employed by Petroleum Helicopters in their early years from 1956-1961 and Mobil Aviation in Morgan City, La from 1961-1992; he planted a pecan orchard in retirement and tended it faithfully. Mr. Saichuk loved working in the orchard and on his vehicles, his garden and his family. Also known as "Poppa" to those who knew him well, little did he know how many lives he touched. He will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony at the time of services. Guidry Funeral Home, 219 N. Broadway St., Church Point, LA is in charge of final arrangements.
