Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 14, 2009 at St. Edmund Catholic Church: Branch, La. for Walter Ray Harmon, 83. Mr. Harmon, a native of Church Point and life-long resident of Branch, La.; died at 9:15 A.M. Tuesday, January 12 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center; Lafayette, La. Father Kevin Bordelon will conduct the services with interment following in the St. Edmund Cemetery in Branch.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Ollie Fontenot Harmon of Branch; a son, Ray Anthony Harmon and wife Pamela of Branch; two daughters, Lillie Harmon Leonards of Rayne, La. and Rachael Harmon Bang of Lake Charles, La.; a sister, Mabel Harmon Pontoliano of Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter William and Esther Hornsby Harmon; a brother, Lester "Babs" Harmon and a half-brother, R.C. Harmon.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 11:00 A.M. until 10:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 13 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Thursday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Wednesday.
Mr. Harmon, a life-long farmer, was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the Philippines in the Pacific Theater. He was a life member of American Legion Post 225 and a msmber of Woodmen of the World Lodge #444 in Church Point and Knights of Columbus Council 1897 in Rayne.
