Church Point, LA: Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 20, 2018 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Virgie M. Lavergne, 80, the former Virgie Mary Picard. Ms. Lavergne, a native and long-time resident of Church Point, died Thursday evening, August 16 at Opelousas General Hospital in Opelousas, LA. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with interment following in the Monsignor Bienvenu Cemetery on Hwy 35 north of Church Point. Survivors include her companion of more than twenty years, John Dale Richard of Church Point; two sons, Ronald Lavergne and wife Cheryl of Sunset, La and Troy Lavergne of Basile, LA; a daughter, Barbara Sadaghi of Katy, TX; two stepchildren, Devin Richard and wife Tiffany of Kaplan, LA and Kevin Richard and wife Blythe of Rayne, LA; a brother, Nolton Picard and wife Lela of Eunice, LA; ten grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and a Godchild, Mark Picard and wife Annette. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Ada Daigle Picard and her brother and sister-in-law, Willard and Elaine Picard. The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 3:00 P.M. until 9:30 P.M. on Sunday, August 19 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Monday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held there at 7:00 P.M. Sunday by Monsignor DeBlanc. Truly loved by family and friends, she will be remembered as one who loved a good game of cards.
