Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, July 18, 2014 at St. Edmund Catholic Church in Branch, La. for Verdia Mae L. Venable, 92, the former Verdia Mae Leger. Mrs. Venable, a native and long-time resident of rural Acadia Parish near Branch, died at 9:58 A.M. Wednesday, July 16 at her residence. Father Paul Broussard will conduct the services with entombment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum adjacent to the church in Church Point.
Survivors include her son, Ricky Venable and wife Diane of Church Point; two grandchildren, Katie Angelle and husband Jamie of Breaux Bridge, La. and Michael Venable and wife Crystal of Baton Rouge, La. and two great-grandchildren, Reese and Jules Angelle .
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Venable, her parents, Noah and Evay Thibodeaux Leger and two brothers, John Clyde and James Dewey Leger.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 17 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Friday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday by Deacon Bryne Winn.
"Mrs. Venable was dearly loved by her family and did a lot for other people during her long life."
The family wishes to thank her caregiver, Margaret Espree, and her doctor, Dwight Curtis, for their kind efforts on her behalf.
