Obituary

Church Point, LA:         A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Theresa "Teasie" Cary, 83, the former Theresa Claire Richard. Mrs. Cary, a lifetime resident of Church Point, LA, passed away Monday evening, July 11 at Courtyard Manor Nursing Care in Lafayette, LA. Rev. Father Mitchell Guidry will be the celebrant of the Mass and interment will be in the Monsignor Bienvenu Cemetery on Hwy 35 north of Church Point. A "Celebration of Life" will be held immediately following the services at the Saddle Tramp Riding Club clubhouse.
She is survived by one son, Anthony "Bubba" Cary and his wife Donna of Carencro; one daughter, Caron Nunez and husband Joe of Church Point; her brother, Leander Richard and wife Mildred of Church Point; ten grandchildren, Abby Murphy and husband Jeremy, Kristina Cary, Jolie Cary and spouse Trevor, Bailey Cary and spouse Colby, Michael Kidder and wife Angel, Matthew Kidder and spouse Monet, Jared Meaux, Andre Nunez and spouse Helen, Chadon Boudreaux and spouse Dylan and Tiffany Boudreaux and spouse John and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband J.U. Cary; her daughters, Jackie Cary and Antoinette Kidder; a grandson, Nicholas Kidder; her parents, Isaac and Celina Richard; her sister, Loretta Matthews and her brothers, Shorty, Elton and Junior Richard.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 7:00 AM Thursday until the time of services. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 1:00 PM Thursday by Father Guidry. Pallbearers will be Jared Meaux, Andre Nunez, Michael and Matt Kidder, Mark Mathews and Ike Richard. Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie and John Richard. As an active part of her community, Mrs. Cary was always willing to donate her time to make a difference in bettering her community. She served on many boards and was a founding member of many organizations in her community including: Church Point City Council for four years, Mayor Pro-Tem, Acadia-St. Landry Medical Foundation Board Member, Founder and organizer of the Church Point Buggy Festival, LA Ambassador of Tourism, Member of Acadia Parish Tourist Commission, Chairman of Cajun Day for twenty-two years, Chairman of Courir du Mardi Gras for 5 years, Past President of Louisiana Association of Fair and Festivals, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Ladies Altar Society, French Choir Member and a Eucharistic Minister, Member of Church Point Cajun Culture and Tourism Committee, Member of the Church Point Parks and Recreation Committee, lifelong member of the Saddle Tramp Riders Club and original founding member of the Cajun Ladies, American Legion Auxiliary Post 225 and the Louisiana Tourism Summit Commission. She was giving of herself to so many things but mostly to her family who she loved dearly. Cooking and baking were her passion and there was always enough for extended family and friends. Catering for events gave her the opportunity to do what she enjoyed while meeting and forming relationships with so many people. Passionate about so many things, she made sure her voice was always heard when it was truly something she believed in. Guidry Funeral Home, 219 N. Broadway St., Church Point, LA is in charge of final arrangements.
