Church Point, LA:         A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Friday August 20, 2021 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for James Terry Matte, 71. Mr. Matte, a native and current resident of Church Point, passed away Tuesday, August 17 at Lafayette General Hospital in Lafayette, LA. Reverend Brian Harrington, pastor of the church, will be the celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the committal services in the Monsignor Bienvenu Cemetery on Hwy 35 north of Church Point.

He is survived by his wife, Meyona Prevost Matte of Church Point; his sons, Kevin Matte and wife Rachelle of Lewisburg, LA and Scotty Matte and wife Teta of Church Point; his daughters: Teri Matte Credeur and husband Shannon of Church Point, Jalaine Matte of Big Spring, TX and Wendy Matte of Orlando, FL; a brother, John Allen Matte of Rayne, LA; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laurent and Marie Oza Matte and a brother, Dallas Matte.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM on Thursday, August 19 and continue from 8:00 AM Friday until the time of services. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 6:00 PM Thursday by Deacon Byrne Winn. A U.S. Army veteran of the Viet Nam Era and devoted family man, Mr. Matte was a liquor distributor for a number of years. Truly patriotic, he belonged to Eunice American Legion Post 129 and to Eunice VFW Post 8971, where he was an All-American Commander from 2015-2017 and called Bingo for some 30 years. Mr. Matte was also a member of the Ancillary Committee of the SW LA Veterans Home in Jennings, LA and a VFW Dept of LA Quartermaster for District 7. He will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony at the time of services. Guidry Funeral Home, 219 N. Broadway St., Church Point, LA is in charge of final arrangements.
