Obituary

Elizabeth Sylvia McGee, 91, native of Church Point and Richard, LA, died on June 8, 2021. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Edward Catholic Church in Richard Saturday, June 12 at 11:00 AM.
Sylvia was born on August 5, 1929 to Joseph Briscoe and Mabel Delafosse in Church Point, LA. She attended Church Point High School and married her WWII sweetheart, Donnel (Dean) McGee, on June 18, 1946. The two first settled in L'Anse Chaoui (a suburb of Pointe Noire) and later built a home in Richard where Dean farmed rice, soybeans, and crawfish. There they spent their life together raising their family for 71 years until Dean's death in 2017. Their abiding love for each other inspired everyone who knew them. Much of Sylvia's life was focused on her husband and children, supporting them with her love, courage, tenderness, and spirited humor she was well-known for. She gave to her children and grandchildren generously, ensuring that their education and upbringing enriched their talents and nourished their souls. We will miss her and the fragrance of her Saturday morning cinnamon rolls.
Sylvia and Dean had six children, four girls and two boys: Theresa McGee (deceased) of Richard, LA; Carolyn McGee and her husband Allan Graubard of New York City, NY; Donna McGee Onebane of Lafayette, LA; Elizabeth Smith of Eunice, LA; Joey McGee (deceased) of Richard, LA and Gary McGee of Lafayette, LA; twelve grandchildren, Bo Matkowsky, Eve Onebane Russell, Jake Onebane, Scotty Richard, Karen Smith, Lauren McGee, Jordan McGee, Ryan McGee, Alexis Smith, Angelle Smith (deceased), Bryce McGee and Connor McGee; eleven great grandchildren, Hillary Mouton, Phoebe Mouton, Charlie Russel, Dean Onebane, Bear Onebane, Harmoni Richard, Brennon Smith, Keelie Guidry, Kolton Desormeaux, Aiden Comeaux and Ezekiel Richard.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Friday, June 11 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM until the time of services. A rosary will be recited at the funeral home Friday night at 7:00 PM. Personal condolences may be sent to the McGee family at www.guidryfuneralhome.com.
