Church Point, LA:     A Memorial Service will be held at a time to be determined by family for Stuart Kevin Bates, 57. Mr. Bates, born in Merced, CA, raised in Opelousas, LA and a long-time resident of Church Point, LA, died Wednesday morning, January 22 at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point. Interment will be determined by family.

Survivors include his mother, Frankie Glasscock of Opelousas, LA; two sons, Brett Bates of Lafayette and Gabe Bates of New Iberia, LA; two brothers, Robert "Bob" Bates of Oregon and Steven Bates and wife Lynn of New Iberia; a sister, Martha Annette Bates Bantin of Opelousas and two grandchildren, Magnolia Mae Bates and Hammond "Hammy" George Bates.  He was preceded in death by his father, James "Jim" Bates and his wife, Angela Matte Bates.

Employed as an oilfield X-Ray tech, as a carpenter with Nelams and Smith, Inc. and at Piggly Wiggly Grocery in Church Point for a number of years, Mr. Bates was truly loved and will be sadly missed by his extended family and friends.
