Church Point, LA: Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 P.M Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Sonja Marie Lapoint, 65, the former Sonja Marie Guidry. Mrs. Lapoint, a native and long-time resident of Church Point, died Sunday afternoon, May 10 at her residence. Reverend Patrick Broussard, pastor of the church, will conduct the services with entombment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Hwy 35 north of Church Point.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel Lapoint of Church Point; her daughters, Leah Lapoint Savoy and husband Matthew and Lori Lapoint Sonnier and husband Brent-all of Church Point;  her brothers, David Guidry of Church Point and Carlos "Chubby" Guidry and wife Raquel Welch Guidry 0f Baton Rouge, LA; a sister, Mitzi Guidry of Baton Rouge; her anticipated grandchild, "Baby Savoy" and her extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Evelyn Bibbs Guidry; a brother-in-law, Tim Lacy and her best friend, "Desi" Higginbotham. A fixture as employee and then owner of Pierre Guidry and Son Lumber in Church Point and Opelousas since 1972, Mrs. Lapoint was a loving wife and mother who was looking forward to her time as a grandmother. Visitation will be held at Guidry Funeral Home from 10:00 A.M. until time of services on Saturday with a recitation of the Rosary by Deacon Bryne Winn at 12:30 P.M.
