Church Point, LA Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point, LA for Rosie Guidry, 100, the former Rosie D'Amores. Mrs. Guidry, a native and long-time resident of Church Point, died Thursday afternoon, January 4 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas, LA. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with entombment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum adjacent to the church. The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 8:00 A.M. Saturday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held there at 11:30 A.M. by Deacon Bryne Winn. Rosie was born in Avoyelles Parish on March 16, 1917 to Ernest and Sisley Janet D'Amores. A native of Bordelonville, she moved to Church Point with her father. Rosie attended Church Point High School (Class of 1935) and worked selling tickets at the Bijou Theatre where her father worked as manager/ projector operator. Although Rosie and her father enjoyed living at the Breaux Hotel, when financially able he relocated his wife and younger children to Church Point as well. Mr. D'Amores also managed the Joy Theatre which he later purchased. Work in the theatre became a family business with her mother and younger siblings also working alongside Mr. D'Amores. A favorite story Rosie told was of her and Louis traveling the countryside to "show". She sold tickets and Louis operated the projector where people watched the movies projected on the side of barns. Rosie loved her family and enjoyed life as a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She loved having her family over to celebrate special occasions - especially when cake was to be served. In fact, she often served cake and coffee before the main meal! She was an excellent seamstress and took great pride in being properly dressed at all times. Even in the last year of her life, she enjoyed having her hair, makeup and nails done. She was a true matriarch. Rosie died peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2018, surrounded by family at a place she called home, Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Opelousas, LA. Survivors include her son Austin and Gernice W. Guidry; grandchildren, Lance L. and Cynthia P. Thibodeaux, and their children, Ashley Thibodeaux, Justin and Chelsey Thibodeaux and Jeffrey Thibodeaux; J. Kevin and Connie F.
