Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 6, 2011 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for Roderick Wimberley, Sr., 76. Mr. Wimberley, a native and lifelong resident of Church Point, died at 5:15 A.M. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point. Monsignor Jefferson DeBlanc will conduct the services with interment following in St. John Cemetery in Lewisburg, La.
Survivors include his wife, Guinny McBride Wimberley of Church Point; a son, Rod Wimberley, Jr. and wife Leslie of Lafayette, La.; three daughters: Robin Thibodeaux and husband Reggie, Rocky Frederick and husband Chad and Rhonda Wimberley and companion Pat Domingue-all of Church Point; four brothers: Jessie, Bobby and Bill Wimberley-all of Church Point and Dale Wimberley of Port Barre, La.; three sisters: Mattie Wimberley, Linda Brouilette and Ann Latiolais-all of Church Point; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Wimberley coached Little League baseball for many years beginning with the program's inception in 1960. He also coached fast-pitch softball which was popular in the area. He was involved with the Church Point High School Football program as a volunteer for many years and was a long-time member of the Church Point Quarterback Club. He was elected to several terms on the Church Point City Council and served as Mayor Pro-Tem during his tenure.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 8:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 5 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Monday until the time of services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:30 P.M. Sunday by Msgr. Jefferson DeBlanc.
