Church Point, LA: Robert Roland McBride went home to the Lord on Tuesday, July 27, 2026 at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point, Louisiana after 94 years of love, laughter, and memories surrounded by family, friends, and those he cherished the most.

Bob was born on July 25, 1932 in Church Point, Louisiana to Paul Victor McBride and Lucille Guidry. As the youngest of four, Bob’s upbringing was one of fantastic times, even during a tumultuous time in our nation’s history. His youth included playing with cousins who lived nearby, fishing with friends, going to the local cinema in town, and countless times of joy and laughter. Bob was a 1951 graduate of Church Point High School, alongside his high school sweetheart who would soon become his loving wife and mother of his children, Willow Dean Huckaby. While in high school, Bob was on the 1949 6-man football state championship team, and always made sure that part of CPHS history was never forgotten. After high school, he chose to continue his studies at Southwestern Louisiana Institute (SLI), now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. After one semester, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict, where he was stationed overseas and, for a brief time, in Texas. After four years of service in the Air Force, Bob returned to SLI where he received a degree in secondary education in 1959, becoming a first-generation college graduate, and setting up his family with a bright future through education. After college, Bob’s first job in education was teaching and coaching at St. Francis High School in Iota, Louisiana, which was followed by a stint at South Rayne, where he taught 6th grade. Bob then returned to his alma mater, Church Point High School, where he would go on to become “Coach Bob” to many, serving as a football coach, basketball coach, and U.S. History teacher for many years, and later on, working there alongside his wife. Bob also was a local driver’s education instructor for many years, teaching countless students the joys of independence through the open roads. The Church Point community would also be where Bob would raise his beautiful family and become a well-known figure in the town. Known as Robert, Bob, Bobby, and Coach to many, and Dad, Grandfather, and Uncle Bobby to those who loved him most, Bob’s legacy in the Church Point community will forever be defined by his unwavering love for his alma mater, his lifelong commitment to education, and his heartfelt dedication to ensuring that everyone he encountered experienced the kindness, compassion, laughter, and generosity that were the hallmarks of the McBride family. Bob was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 225 of Church Point, the Monsignor C.A. Bienvenu Knights of Columbus Council 2504, and a lector at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Bob is survived by his daughters, Jan Mayronne and husband Thomas of Covington, LA, Dana Sexauer and husband Matthew of Franklin, TN, Jill Myers and husband Philip of Church Point, LA; his son Michael McBride and wife Sandra of Fulshear, TX; his step-daughters Carla Andrus and Skip Briscoe of Lafayette, LA, Amy Andrus and Rose Lutz of Church Point, LA, and Claire Andrus of Church Point, LA; his grandchildren, Jennifer Collura and husband Brent of Covington, LA, David Mayronne and wife Amy of Conroe, TX, Alan Sexauer and wife Tanya of Vancouver, Canada, Katie Custer and husband Wes of Nicholasville, KY, Skye Ancisco of Albany, OR, Christian McBride of Lenore, CA, Sean Myers of Indianapolis, IN, and Bailey McBride of Fulsher, TX; and his great-grandchildren, Claire, Natalie, and Kyle Mayronne, Neil Thomas and Angelica Collura, Alex Custer, and Emerson and Austin Sexauer. Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Willow Dean Huckaby; his beautiful second wife of 6 years, Mondell Andrus; his daughter, Kimmerly McBride; his grandson, Neil Mayronne; his daughter-in-law Shelly Conques McBride; his grandchildren Emily Rose Mayronne and baby Myers; his parents, Paul Victor McBride and Lucille Guidry; his brother Paul McBride; and his sisters, Clara Richard and Henrietta McBride.

Visitation will be held at Guidry Funeral Home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday July 30 and continue from 8:00 AM Friday until the time of the Services. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM Thursday by Deacon Byrne Winn. Msgr. Russell Harrington will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM Friday at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Interment immediately following in the OLSH Cemetery in Church Point, LA.

To have known Bob was to love him, and he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
