Obituary

Church Point, LA Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Guidry Funeral Home Chapel in Church Point, for Rayford "Ray" Doiga, 79. Mr. Doiga, a native of Church Point and currently a resident of the "Mallet" area near Ville Platte, died Tuesday afternoon at his residence after losing a battle with cancer. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc conducted the services with interment following in the LeJeune Family Cemetery in Mallet.
Paw Paw was a gentle family man who enjoyed his family and friends. He and his wife enjoyed camping and traveling with friends. The couple were also foster parents. Mr. Ray was an independent truck driver and after several years on the road he purchased a service station on Main Street which became Ray's Service Station. The station was one of the last full service stations in Church Point, always serving his customers with a smile. At that time. he had a large collection of hub caps in his business, which was a conversation piece.After retiring, he and his wife moved to Mallet.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae Doiga of the "Mallet" area; his sons, Charles "Chuck" Doiga and wife Alyce of Lafayette; David Lavergne and wife Shirley of Wellington, CO; Chris Lavergne and wife Melissa of Youngsville and Jake Lavergne and wife Melanie Ann of Church Point; his daughters, Linda Boutin and husband Dale of Henderson; Loraine Ellzey and husband David of New Iberia; Christine Doiga of Opelousas; Teena Lavergne Courville of "Mallet"; a brother, Aaron Doiga and wife Linda of Walker, LA; his sisters, Helen Daigle and husband Johnny of Church Point; Bernita Chustz of Gonzales; Jane LeJeune of "Mallet"; Connie Francis and husband Larry of Gonzales and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Ray and Pearl Dupuis Doiga; a son, John Kent Doiga; a brother, Tom Doiga and two sisters, Lou Ella Roy and Ruth Thibodeaux. The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home beginning at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 23 and continuing uninterrupted until the time of the services on Thursday. A recitation of the Rosary was held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday by Monsignor DeBlanc. Arrangements are being handled by Guidry Funeral Home, Inc.; Church Point.
