Obituary

Church Point, LA:    It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ramona T. Wimberly-Burns, age 77, a resident of Church Point, LA, on Saturday, April 8, 2023.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA, with The Reverend Korey R. LaVergne, Celebrant.  A private Rite of Committal will follow at a later date at Bellevue Memorial Park, Opelousas, LA. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Guidry Funeral Home (219 N. Broadway Street, Church Point, LA, 70525) from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  A Rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m.

Ramona was born and raised in Church Point, Louisiana. She graduated from Church Point High School and T.H. Harris Technical School. For many years she was one of the secretaries at Our Mother of Peace Elementary School and later became the Office Manager for Physical Therapy Services of Church Point where she retired in 2011. Ramona was very family oriented. Coming from a large family, she always enjoyed participating in and hosting family functions. She was extremely dedicated to her three sisters and, more than anything, loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids as well as her dog, Daisy! Ramona will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Herman A. Burns; her son, Bill Wimberly and his wife, Melissa; her three grandchildren, Mallory, Sierra and Avery Wimberly and her great-grandson, August Harmon. She is also survived by her step-granddaughter, Therese Kirkpatrick and her husband, Toby; her step-grandson, Kane Briscoe and step-great grandkids, Chandler and David Ross Kirkpatrick. Ramona also leaves behind her three dearest sisters, Georgia Harrell and her husband John Dale, Nell Pepitone and Sandra Duhon along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Tommy Wimberly; her first husband, Paul Wimberly; her brother, Charles Thibodeaux and her parents, Leonce and Pearl Janise Thibodeaux.
