Church Point, LA: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at St. Edmund Catholic Chapel in Branch, LA for Pierre "Peter" Matte, 85. Mr. Matte, a long-time resident of Acadia Parish near Branch, passed away Saturday morning, February 26 at his son's residence in Branch. Rev. Father Brian Harrington will be the celebrant of the Mass and interment will be in the cemetery adjacent to the chapel.
He is survived by a son, Keith Matte and wife Mendy of Branch; a daughter, Davina "Tut" Desormeaux and husband John of Abbeville, LA; a brother, Rodney Matte of Patterson, LA; his sisters: Elena Melancon of Mire, LA, Mary Hoob of Houma, LA, Geneva Bernard of Bayou Vista, LA and Vicky Granier and husband Remie of Southaven, MS; his grandchildren: Summer Richard, April Fontenot and husband Stacy, Olivia Darbonne and husband Donovan, Mary Kristen and Adriana Matte and D.J. and Katelyn "Rudy" Boudreaux and his great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Shayley Richard; Ian, Sophie and Breyden Fontenot; Gracie Thibodeaux and Leonce and Pierre (soon to be born) Darbonne. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonce and Eldine Richard Matte; his wife, Joycelyn Carriere Matte; a son, Don Matte and a daughter, Catherine Matte Simon.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM on Monday, February 28 and continue from 8:00 AM Tuesday until the time of services. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 7:00 PM Monday by Deacon Byrne Winn. A freight hauler and member of Local 5 of the Teamsters for a number of years; Mr. Matte was caretaker of the chapel and cemetery for many years, a 4 th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a life-time member of the Saddle Tramp Riding Club. He loved carpentry, farming and hunting. The family wishes to thank Dorothy, Treva, Missy, Michelle, Ronnie and Hospice of Acadiana for their care and compassion. Guidry Funeral Home, 219 N. Broadway St., Church Point, LA is in charge of final arrangements.
