Phillip Ray Bacilla, Sr.'s Obituary
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, November 17, 2014 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Phillip Ray Bacilla, Sr., 77, who passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014 at 8:00 PM at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas, LA.
Msgr. Jefferson Deblanc, Pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass.
Mr. Bacilla, a resident of Church Point, was the son of the late Gus Bacilla and the former Annie Kerry.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sherrie D. Bacilla of Church Point, LA; one daughter, Leslie B. Breaux and husband Steven of Lafayette, LA; three sons, Phillip Bacilla, Jr. and wife Kerrie of Opelousas, LA, Al Bacilla and wife Valerie of Milton, LA and Chris Bacilla and wife Rachel of Houston, TX; nine grandchildren, Annie and Alex Breaux, Abigail, Eli and Isabel Bacilla, Noah and Mia Bacilla, and Zack and Emma Bacilla; and one brother, George Bacilla of Shreveport, LA. .
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rose and Isabel and three brothers, Gus, Ed and Albert.
Mr. Bacilla taught history, drama and speech at Church Point High school and was the principal of Our Mother of Peace for several years. Early on in life, he was an avid golfer and gardener. He was the Junior Varsity basketball coach and assistant football coach at Church Point High School. Following his years in coaching high school sports, he was a youth football and baseball coach. Phillip was a member of the American Legion Post #225 in Church Point. He was a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Sunday, November 16, 2014 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm in the funeral home Sunday evening.
Memorial contributions made be made in Mr. Bacilla's name to: The Alzheimer's Association, 205 Mallard Glen Dr., Covington, LA 70435, www.alz.org/louisiana.
