Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for Joseph Perry Smith, Jr., 79. Mr. Smith, a native and life-long resident of Church Point, died unexpectedly at 8:30 A.M. Tuesday, October 9 at his residence. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with entombment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum adjacent to the church.
Survivors include his wife, Wilda Taylor-Smith of Church Point; a son, Duane Smith and wife Cindy of Swords, La.; four daughters: Judy S. Briscoe of Lafayette, La., Malana S. Helton and husband Dirk of Arnaudville, La. and Kaye S. Faul and husband Brent and Lisa S. Thibodeaux and husband Troy-all of Church Point; two sisters, Pat Andrus and husband Roland of Church Point and Delores Burch and husband Troy of New Braunfels, Tex; twenty-two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilda Joyce (Maher) Smith and his parents, Perry and Beatrice (Richard) Smith, Sr.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 A.M. until 10:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 10 and continue from 9:00 A.M. Thursday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday by Monsignor DeBlanc.
Pallbearers will be Kyle, Blake, Andre and Travis Smith; Wyatt and Wesley Thibodeaux; Drake Helton and Taylor Faul.
Mr. Smith, a U.S. Air Force veteran, will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony by the American Legion Post 225 Color Guard at the time of services.
