Church Point, La. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 9, 2010 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Church Point for Paul "Blackie" Benoit, 78. Mr. Benoit, a native of Sunset, La. and long-time resident of Church Point, died at 7:50 P.M. Tuesday, April 6 at the Alexandria VA Medical Center, Alexandria, La. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with entombment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum; Highway 35, Church Point.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa Doucet Benoit of Church Point; two sons, Paul Benoit and wife Christine of Church Point and Ryan Benoit of Lafayette, La.; three daughters, Phyllis Britt and husband Matthew of Sunset, La., Carla Nolan of Minnesota and Ellen Benoit of Youngsville, La.; three brothers, Ellis and Kelly Benoit of Scott, La. and Herschel Benoit of Sunset; three sisters, Eldine Lanthier of Duson, La., Elmae Dugas of Lafayette and Lucy Whitley of Scott; seven grandchildren: Eric Britt, Clayton and Chad Benoit, Ashley and Abbye' Babineaux, Austin LaFont and Amy Nolan and two great-grandchildren, Daven and Sarah Benoit..
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Anna Louise (Cropper) Benoit; three brothers, Cleve, Jake and Leland Benoit and a sister, Genevieve Leger.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 A.M. until 10:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 8 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Friday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday. Pallbearers will be Matthew and Eric Britt, Ryan, Clayton and Chad Benoit and Eric Viator. Austin Lafont will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Mr. Benoit, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony at the funeral home on Friday.
