Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point, La. for Ophelia Mary Fontenot, 85, the former Ophelia Mary Matte. Mrs. Fontenot, a native of Grand Marais, La. and currently a resident of Mandeville, La., died at 10:22 A.M. Thursday, June 12 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center, Covington, La. Francis Martin, Retired Pastor of Family Life Church in Lafayette, La. will conduct the services with interment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Highway 35 north of Church Point.
Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Fontenot Gabal of Abbeville and Colleen Fontenot Barney of Metairie, La.; two sons, Lonnie M. Fontenot and wife Elizabeth of Covington and Jeffrey Fontenot of Gulfport, Ms.; her grandchildren: Gabrielle, Jamie and Jillian Gabal; Shellie, Jacob and Amy Fontenot; Nicholas Guidry; Haley, Teddy and Jordan Philebar and Camille and R. Bennett Fontenot and her great-grandchildren: Timothy N. Guidry; Amanda, Jesse, Caleb, Zachary and Jenna Marquize; Colin and Cohen Harvey and Paige, Mia and Jackson Fontenot.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennett Fontenot, Jr.; her parents, Elmer and Lorice Matte; a sister, Iris Matte; her brothers, Vorace, Willard and Ernest Matte; two grandchildren, Peter J. Gabal and Wendy Savage and two great-grandchildren, Amanda Marquize and Atticus J. Anderson.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the services on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Nick Guidry, Steve Gabal, Jacob Fontenot, Pete and Teddy Philebar and Jesse Marquize.
"Our beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife and best friend was called home by the Lord. She touched so many hearts and we were all blessed to have her in our lives. The world's a little less brighter without her. We love you! Until we meet again…"
