Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon, May 3, 2014 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, La. for Norris John Venable, 86. Mr. Venable, a native and life-long resident of Church Point, died at 9:05 P.M. Wednesday, April 30 at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with entombment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Highway 35 north of Church Point.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Doucet and husband Michael of Church Point; three sons, John Earl Venable, James Ray Venable and wife Peggy Sue and Gary Joseph Venable and wife Lisa-all of Church Point; ten grandchildren: Blake Michael and Brodie Doucet, Shane, Monique, Kristie, Derek, Elizabeth and Leaha Venable, Johnett Boutin and Kelly Daigle; seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Armand and Amynthe Lavergne Venable; his wife, Rita Mae Bernard Venable; two sisters, Elmire and Emma Venable and five brothers: John Bertrand, John Berchman, Alexon, Walter and Eddie Joseph Venable.

The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Friday, May 2 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Saturday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday by Deacon Byrne Winn. Pallbearers will be Blake and Brodie Doucet; Shane, Derek and James Venable; Colby Thibodeaux; Charles Lyons and Brian Carrier.

Mr. Venable was employed as a truck driver by The Evangeline Brokerage Company of Church Point for some forty years. Well-liked, he always had a joke to tell.
