Church Point, LA: Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point, LA for Ms. Myrtis Briscoe Bihm, 89, who passed away peacefully at 9:48 PM Friday, December 30 surrounded by her family at her residence. Deacon Byrne Winn, Deacon of Our Lady of The Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will conduct the funeral services with entombment following immediately after at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Hwy 35.
Myrtis, a native of Church Point and a resident of Long Beach, CA for many years, was the daughter of the late Mr. Sullivan Briscoe and the former Nita Bergeron. After moving to California, she went to college and received her degree in Business Management. Ms. Bihm went to work for the city of Long Beach, CA as an administrative clerk and retired in 1999 after many years of service to the city. After retirement, she moved back to the Acadiana area to spend the rest of her years with her family. Myrtis loved to travel and had visited every continent in the world and had been on 35 cruise ships. On a trip to France with a group from the Senior Citizens Center, she was the unofficial translator as she was the only one who spoke French.
She is survived by her three sons, James Randall Bihm and wife Lorraine of Plano, TX, Ricky Jude Bihm and wife Jeanne of Rancho Mirage, CA and George Kenneth Briscoe of Scott, LA; four grandchildren: Jeffrey Bihm, Jenni Bihm, Corey Bihm and Rene Bihm; eight great-grandchildren; her nephew, Joseph Burton "Skip" Briscoe, II of Lafayette, LA and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Joseph Burton "Baton" Briscoe, Sr.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 3, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM and continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the time of the funeral service. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 6:00 PM by Deacon Byrne Winn. The family would like to give a special Thank You to the staff at Hope Hospice, especially Chrissy, Michelle, Bethany and Pastor Mark for their tremendous support and care during Ms. Myrtis' illness.
