Church Point, LA:         A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 4:00 PM Monday, October 4, 2021 at St. Edward Catholic Church in Richard, LA for Mrs. Monica Bellard Briggs, 50, the former Monica Marie Bellard. Mrs. Briggs, a resident of rural St. Landry Parish near Sunset, LA, passed away Sunday, September 26 at Opelousas General Hospital in Opelousas, LA. Father Corey Lavergne, pastor of the church, will be the celebrant of the Mass and interment will be in the St. Edward Cemetery adjacent to the church.

She is survived by her husband, David Briggs of Sunset; her mother, Ivy Mae Venable Bellard of Church Point, LA ; her mother-in-law, Wynona "Blackie" Bernard and husband John of Sunset; her sons, David Chance Briggs of Sunset and Briley Briggs of Church Point; her daughters, Bailey and Casey Briggs of Church Point; a brother, Gene Bellard of Church Point; her sisters: Melinda Weaver of Eunice, LA, Priscilla Ancelet and husband Jimmy of Rayne, LA, Gail Brown and husband Darren and Annette Bellard-all of Church Point and Lisa Bellard Pinac and husband Andre L. Pinac III, M.D. of Opelousas and three grandchildren, Roman, Audrie and Holden Briggs. She was preceded in death by her father, Herman Joseph Bellard; a daughter, Shelbie Mae Briggs and a brother-in-law, Richard Weaver. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 9:00 AM until the time of services on Monday. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 3:00 PM Monday by Deacon Byrne Winn. Pallbearers will be Shane Daigle, Scotty Brown, Jacob Prejean, Briley Briggs, Chad Fielder and Josh Lavergne. Honorary pallbearers will be Roman and Holden Briggs. Mrs. Briggs operated Briggs ATMS with her husband, David, for a number of years. A beautiful, ever-smiling "people person" who was always willing to help; she was devoted to her family. Mrs. Briggs never met a stranger. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
