Church Point, LA: A Mass of Christian Burial with attendance by family and friends will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 10, 2020 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Mildred Wimberly, 87, the former Mary Mildred Thibodeaux. Ms. Wimberly, a life-long resident of Church Point, passed away at 11:49 PM August 7th at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, LA. Her nephew, Fr. Mark Thibodeaux, S.J., will be the celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the committal services in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Hwy 35 north of Church Point. Masks are required.

She is survived by her sister, Lily Fontenot of Eunice, LA; a brother, Carroll Thibodeaux and wife Shirley of Church Point and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Laura Sonnier Thibodeaux; father, Pierre Thibodeaux and brother, Leland Thibodeaux. A loved member of the community, Ms. Wimberly worked as a nurse's aide at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point for many years. In her last years there she became Patient Activity Coordinator. She was very compassionate towards her patients and dearly loved her career. Although Ms. Wimberly never mothered children; she mothered and nurtured every member of the family, especially her nieces and nephews. Mildred loved to go camping and enjoyed trips with her brother Leland and family and sister Lily. She became an avid reader when she moved into the Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home, was a devout Catholic and loved praying. A kind and loving person, she will be greatly missed.
