Church Point, LA:         A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Merlis S. Fruge, 88, the former Merlis Marie Sonnier. Mrs. Fruge, a native and long-time resident of Church Point, passed away Monday morning, June 1 at the Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home. Reverend Patrick Broussard, pastor of the church, will be the celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the committal services in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery on Hwy 35 north of Church Point. She is survived by her sons, Randy Fruge and wife Romayne of Broussard, LA and Brian Fruge and wife Sharon of Church Point; two daughters, Darlene Menard and husband Alcee of Church Point and Francine Higginbotham of Lafayette, LA; three sisters, Ruth Fruge and Lorita Fontenot of Church Point and Lucille Gamble and husband Nick of England; eleven grandchildren: Cory Menard, Shana Chappuis, Dana Raupp, Mimi Daigle, Krystle Lantier, Mia Castille, Lauren Higginbotham, Matt Fruge, Valerie Wendolshafer, Courtney Rutledge and Katelyn Meaux and twenty-five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ursey Fruge; her parents, Leo and Lorena Richard Sonnier; a sister, Gertie Barousse and two brothers-in-law, Tom Fruge and Cyrus Fontenot. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Thursday. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 1:00 P.M. by Reverend Broussard. Pallbearers will be Randy Fruge, Keith Gillard, Jody Lantier, Kevin Raupp, Justin Daigle and Nick Castille. Honorary Pallbearers will be Alcee and Cory Menard, Brian Fruge and Rick Chappuis. A teacher at Our Mother of Peace School in Church Point for some thirty-three years, Mrs. Fruge was truly loved by her extended family, friends and students. Guidry Funeral Home, 219 N. Broadway St., Church Point, LA is in charge of final arrangements.
