Obituary

Church Point, LA:       On Palm Sunday, a beloved mother and grandmother entered into eternal rest after a beautiful life of love and devotion to her family. Melissa Louise Richard Trahan, 73, of Church Point, Louisiana, passed away at 5:51 PM on April 14, 2019, at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette, Louisiana, as a result of complications from a recent heart surgery. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, Louisiana. Monsignor Jefferson J. Deblanc, Pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the interment services at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Highway 35. Melissa was the third daughter born to Dupre Vilmont (D.V.) and Beverly Horecky Richard on October 15, 1945. Melissa attended Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School for her elementary years and graduated from the Academy of Immaculate Conception in Opelousas, in 1964. Melissa also attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute. Melissa met the love of her life, Alcus Trahan, on a blind date on Valentine's Day, 1972. They married later that year on July 2, 1972. "Alie" and "Melie," as they affectionately called each other, loved spending time together talking, drinking coffee on the porch and gardening. Melissa will be dearly missed by her family. Melissa is survived by her husband of over 46 years, Alcus Trahan and five of her six children: Camille Bertrand, married to Ryan; Andre Trahan, married to Nicole; Aimee Brown; Renee Trahan and Nicholas Trahan, married to Melissa. Melissa is remembered by her thirteen grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Momom:" Adrianna, Tayler, Katie, Hannah, Gavin, Ross, Logan, Trey, Alex, Isabella, Grant, Ava and Gabriel. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren: Evander and Silas. Melissa is survived by three sisters: Suzanne Brasseaux, Libby Sonnier and Clelie Guidry; and one sister-in-law, Bernice Guidry. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. Melissa was preceded in death by her parents; her oldest son, Claude Dupre Trahan and her oldest sister, Charlotte LaVergne. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 17 from 8 AM until 3 PM. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 11 AM. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staffs of Opelousas General Health Systems and Lafayette General Medical Center.
