Church Point, LA:        A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, September 9, 2019 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA  for Mrs. Mary Celise Carriere, 87, who passed away on Saturday morning, September 7 at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point. Fr. David Rozas, Pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and entombment will take place in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Hwy 35 north of Church Point.
Mrs. Celise, a resident of Church Point, Louisiana was the daughter of the late Eddison Matte and the former Adeniza Richard. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia C. Venable and husband James of Church Point; one son, Jimmy Carriere and wife Jeanette of Church Point; seven grandchildren, Christy Venable, Tiffany V. Duhon, Jody Bertrand, Justin and Jared  Carriere, Jessica Wynn and Julie Guidry; seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Jean Carriere and Terry Elkins and one brother, Delton Matte. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Joseph Milton "Brown" Carriere.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Sunday, September 8 from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM and continuing from 8:00 AM Monday until the time of services. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM Sunday by Deacon Byrne Winn. A local hairdresser for some forty years, Mrs. Carriere was a member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church and a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She will be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved gardening and playing "Bourree".
