Obituary

Church Point, LA :    Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point, LA for Mr. Marion Elmer Middlebrooks, 91, who passed away at 3:12 AM Wednesday, April 22, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor NH in Opelousas, LA. Chad Thibodeaux, Pastor of Vatican Baptist Church, will conduct the Funeral Services. Burial will take place in the First Baptist Cemetery on Hwy 35.

Elmer, a resident of Sunset, LA was the son of the late Richard Middlebrooks and the former Emma Ura Bellar. Shortly after graduating from Olla High School, he met his wife, Rosa Lee, in Conroe, TX, where he began his family. Moving to Lafayette to follow the oil field, he raised his children in Lafayette, Scott and Sunset. Elmer was a hardworking man whose life was built on dedication, craftsmanship, and love for his family. He began his career in the oilfield laying board roads and, through years of determination and perseverance, worked his way up to become a respected drilling consultant. From his younger years until he was no longer able, Marion found joy in playing bluegrass music on his guitar, a passion that brought him peace and happiness. Woodworking was another true love of his—if he made something for one person, he made sure to make one for everyone. He had a special place in his heart for dogs, especially his beloved Sandy, his faithful companion of 14 years. A lifelong Mason, Marion took great pride in hard work and spent his days caring for and maintaining his 30 acres of property until the very end. Above all, he cherished his family, and he often joked that if he had known grandchildren would be so much fun, he would have had them first.

He is survived by two children, Sharon Luquette and Curtiss Middlebrooks; his grandchildren, Misty Esponge and her husband Chuck, Shawn Luquette and Codi Luquette; his great-grandchildren, Ty John, whom he raised as a son, Chase Luquette, Lincoln Luquette and Hannah Orgeron and her husband Chase; his great-great-grandchildren, Dominic, Siddalie and Jade; one sister, Faye Hogue; two brothers, Virgil Williams and Jessie Williams and wife Janie and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years, Rosa Lee "Granny" Middlebrooks and his sister, Donna Couch. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 28, from 9:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Service.
