Church Point, LA Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 17, 2017 at Church of the Assumption Catholic Church in Mire, LA for Lynette Venable, 78, the former Joyce Lynette Johnson. Ms. Venable, a native and long-time resident of rural St. Landry Parish near Sunset, LA, died Tuesday evening, February 14 at St. Joseph Hospice, The Carpenter House in Lafayette, LA. Monsignor Russell Harrington will conduct the services with interment following in the Assumption Cemetery adjacent to the Church. Survivors include a son, Don Venable and his significant other, Faye, of Scott, LA; her daughters, Lisa Savoy and husband Dwayne of Cankton, LA, Tracy Menard and husband Tommy of Opelousas, LA and Melissa LaFosse and husband Smokey of Church Point; her brothers, Gerald Johnson and wife Pat of Mobile, AL, Bert Johnson of Lake Charles, LA, Vernon Johnson and wife Mary of Kaplan, LA and Barney Johnson and wife Connie of Sunset, a sister, Becky Richard and husband Terry of Sunset; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Venable; her parents, Alton and Rose Boudreaux Johnson; two sons, Marcus and Scotty Venable and a sister, Mary Faith Johnson. The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 11:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 16 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Friday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary by family will be held there at 7:00 P.M. Thursday. A faithful Christian who loved her family, Ms. Venable loved to sew, bake and play "Spinner". She was also a member of the Krotz Springs Quilting Guild for a number of years.
