Church Point, La. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Church Point for Lufroy J. Fontenot, Jr., 86. Mr. Fontenot, a native and life-long resident of Church Point, died at 4:40 A.M. Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point. Father Bradley Guillory will celebrate the funeral Mass with entombment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Highway 35 north of Church Point.
Survivors include two sons, Joey Fontenot and wife Angela of Metairie, La. and Brent Fontenot and wife Christy of Broussard, La.; a daughter, Joy Daigle and husband John of Church Point; a brother, Jake Fontenot of Church Point; four sisters: Martha Bordelon of Eunice, La., Betty Thibodeaux and Bonnie Hooper of Church Point and Patsy Blum of Lafayette, La.; a sister-in-law, Frances Fontenot of Church Point and five grandchildren: Andrew, Claire and Louis Fontenot and William and Joshua Daigle. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (Christ) Fontenot.

The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. on Tuesday and continue from 8:00 A.M. Wednesday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday.

A U.S. Army veteran of WWII where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the European Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars among other decorations, Mr. Fontenot was a retiree of Canal Refining Company where he worked for some forty-one years. Since he was a long-time member of American Legion Post 225 and VFW Post 9903, he will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony by the Post Honor Guard at the time of services.
