Obituary

Church Point:       A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 14, 2019 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Mr. Louis Ervin Miller, 87, who passed away at 4:02 PM Friday, January 11 at his residence.
Msgr. Jefferson J. Deblanc, Pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and burial will take place in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery adjacent to the church.
Louis, a lifelong resident of Church Point, was the son of the late Louis Miller and the former Agnes Carriere. He honorably served his country in the United States Army from January 24, 1951 through January 23, 1954 during the Korean Conflict . Mr. Miller was a member of both local veteran organizations, VFW post 9903 and the American Legion Post 225. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather to his family and taught them the values of love, family, home, the 'work ethic', a love of cooking, gardening and 'joie de vie'.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty June Barousse Miller of Church Point; eight daughters, Monica Hanes and husband Kent of Lafayette, Ellen Belcher and husband Butch of Orange Beach, AL, Claire Reed and husband Mark of Opelousas, Phyllis Miller and husband Allen Angers of Lafayette, Karen Miller of Lafayette, Mary Miller and Toby Leblanc of Lafayette, Martha Loris and husband Casey of Madisonville, LA and Brenda Riche and husband Bryan of Carencro; four sons, Joel Miller and wife Vickie of Baton Rouge, Daniel Miller and wife Pattie of Jacksonville, FL, Peter Miller of Church Point and Matthew Miller of Austin, TX; 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step father, Maurice Jagneaux; one sister, Virginia Miller; one brother, Mancil Miller and one granddaughter Sophie Angelle Loris.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on, Sunday, January 13 from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM and continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until the time of services. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home Sunday evening at 7:00 PM. Pallbearers will be his eight grandsons, Ken Hanes, Dustin Miller, Brock Miller, Jared Reed, Travis Belcher, Captain Drew Belcher, USAF, Braden Miller and Brennan Riche'.
