Obituary

Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for Lierra Meche, 80, the former Lierra Lavergne. Mrs. Meche, a native and long-time resident of Church Point, died at 8:28 P.M. Wednesday, June 1 at Prompt Succor Nursing Home; Opelousas, La. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with interment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Highway 35 north of Church Point.
Survivors include a son, Anthony "Jack" Meche and wife Rosemary of Church Point; two daughters, Gwen Hilburn and husband Gary of Lafayette, La. and Elizabeth Lyons and husband Wayne of Sunset, La.; a brother, Patrick Lavergne of Lafayette; seven grandchildren: Nancy Hilburn Gregory and husband Mike, Ally Hilburn Graham and husband Stephen, Kelli Hilburn Louviere and husband Sean, Brad Meche and wife Jamie, Mike Lyons, Courtney Meche Andrepont and husband Blake and Jennie Lyons Gautreaux and husband Joey and ten great-grandchildren: Jackson and Farrah Graham, Kennedy and Bryce Louviere, Alexandra and Andrew Gregory, Brenley and Zachary Meche and Maddox and Noah Andrepont.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Meche; her parents, Jack and Ezola Briscoe Lavergne; a sister, Maudra Meche and a brother, Russell Lavergne.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 11:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Friday, June 3 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Saturday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday by Monsignor DeBlanc.
Pallbearers will be Brad, James, Frederick, Todd and Thad Meche and her brother Patrick Lavergne. Gift bearers will be Nancy Gregory, Ally Graham, Kelli Louviere, Courtney Andrepont and Jennie Gauthreaux. Soloist Naomi Broussard will sing the following selections: "Here I am Lord", Hail Mary Gentle Woman", " Only In God", He's Standing At The Door", and "Lead Me Lord".
The family wants to acknowledge with deep appreciation : Dr. Juan Zeik who gave not only of himself medically to Momma but personally-in her eyes, Dr. Zeik "hung the moon". All of the staff of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home who showed love and compassion for her over the past year-especially her CNAs , Melissa , Marie and Jessica, who were extremely caring and gentle with her. Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care of Opelousas Staff and Hospice nurse Mrs. Lou Fuselier, who was our angelic nightengale.

Mrs. Meche worked for years in sales at J.E. Daigle & Son in Church Point and Sam's Club where many will remember her smiling face at the door as they entered. She loved the "Sam's family" as she referred to her job. A very giving and loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother-family meant everything to her. When her granddaughters tried to say who was her
"favorite"; she always replied, "you are all my favorites!" A long-time member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Church Point Court; Mrs. Meche was also a member of a local "Pokeno" group and enjoyed Bingo outings.
