Church Point, LA:         A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Leroy Sonnier, 92. Mr. Sonnier, a native of Church Point and resident of Gonzales, LA, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 13 at his residence. Rev. Father Brian Harrington, pastor of the church, will be the celebrant of the Mass and entombment will be in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Hwy 35 north of Church Point.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Lanthier Sonnier of Gonzales; his sons, Kenneth Wayne Sonnier and wife Linda of Gonzales, Wayne Landry of Lafayette, LA and Keith Landry and wife Sue of Houma, LA; his daughters, Brenda Sonnier Deroche and husband Lawrence "Tick" Deroche of Gonzales and Sharon Landry of Hawaii; a brother, Kelly Sonnier of French Settlement, LA; his sisters: Frieda Bevers and husband Henry of Lafayette, Jeanette Cormier of Sulphur, LA, Melba Thibodeaux and husband Howard of Opelousas, LA, Sylvia Johnson and husband Harry of Pearland, TX and Ramona Sonnier of Watson, LA; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Sonnier, Jr. and Sarah Thibodeaux Sonnier; his first wife, Mary Lee Doucet Sonnier; a son, Danny Ray Sonnier; a daughter, Debbie Sonnier Zeringue; a brother, Preston Joseph Sonnier and a sister, Mildred Sonnier Carriere. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 10:30 AM Saturday until the time of services. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 11:00 AM Saturday by Deacon Byrne Winn. An operator with Freeport-McMoran for a number of years, Mr. Sonnier was a kind-hearted, devoted husband and father and a grandparent who loved all his grandchildren. He loved to fish and dance. He will be missed by all who knew him. Guidry Funeral Home, 219 N. Broadway St., Church Point, LA is in charge of final arrangements.
