Obituary

Church Point, LA:         A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Friday June 11, 2021 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Leota Thibodeaux, 97, the former Leota Mary Matte. Mrs. Thibodeaux, a native and lifetime resident of Church Point, passed away Tuesday evening, June 8 at her current residence in rural St. Landry Parish. Reverend Patrick Broussard, pastor of the church, will be the celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the committal services in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Hwy 35 north of Church Point. She is survived by her sons: Robert "Bobby" Thibodeaux and wife Vicki of Abbeville, LA, Glen Thibodeaux and wife Keena of Church Point and Jeff Thibodeaux and wife Karen of Branch, LA; three daughters: JoAnn Credeur and husband Rodney and Sandy Bellard and husband Pat-all of Church Point and Bonnie Bergeron and husband Dale of Opelousas, La; twenty grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, forty-six great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy years, Havard Thibodeaux; her parents, Alex and Elia Matte; a son-in-law, Gilford Doucet; a brother, Allen Matte and her sisters: Rosabelle Matte, Eldine Richard, Genevieve Sonnier and Joyce Prejean. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM on Thursday, June 10 and continue from 8:00 AM Friday until the time of services. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 7:00 PM Thursday by Deacon Byrne Winn. Pallbearers will be Dexter, Dustan, Brett and Chase Thibodeaux; Danny and Kenneth Doucet, Toby Bergeron and Kyle Bellard with Seth Bellard as an honorary pallbearer. Readers will be Shaé Doucet Simon and Clark Thibodeaux. A First Class Welder at the Houston, TX Shipyard in WWII, Mrs. Thibodeaux was a member of the American Rosie the Riveter Association. She was also a member of the OLSH Ladies Altar Society. The family wishes to extend gratitude to all their extended family members and the staff of LA Hospice and Palliative Care for the care given to their beloved "Mom".
