Church Point, LA: Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 14, 2019 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Leo Joseph Matte, 93. Mr. Matte, a long-time resident of rural St. Landry Parish near Church Point, died Friday morning, October 11 at Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home in Church Point. Pere David Rozas will conduct the services and the entombment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Hwy 35 north of Church Point. Survivors include a son, Kevin Matte and wife Wanda of Church Point, LA; two daughters, Cynthia Soileau and husband Steve of Scott, La and Belinda Bellard and husband Darell of Church Point; a sister, Rita Primeaux of Opelousas, LA; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lauris Martinez Matte; his parents, Olivier and Elena Comeaux Matte; two brothers, Gervais "Jack" Matte and Evans "China" Matte; a sister, Wilma Matte Oaks and an infant sister, Yvonne Matte. The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 12:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Sunday, October13 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Monday until the time of the services. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Sunday by Deacon Byrne Winn. A U.S. Navy veteran of the invasions of the Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa in the Pacific in WWII, Mr. Matte was a farmer and an operator in the City of Lafayette Utility System for a number of years. Upon retirement, he and his wife enjoyed dancing and traveled America in their motorhome. A member of American Legion Post 225 and VFW Post 9903, Mr. Matte will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony at the time of services. Truly loved, he will be sadly missed by his extended family and friends. Arrangements are being handled by Guidry Funeral Home, Inc.; 219 N. Broadway, Church Point, LA (337) 684-5488.
