Obituary

Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the Guidry Funeral Home Chapel, Church Point for Mrs. Lelia B. Smith, 96, the former Lelia Philomene Broussard. Mrs. Smith, a native of Scott, La. and long-time resident of Church Point, died at 7:00 P.M. Monday, January 5 at Acadia- St. Landry Hospital, Church Point. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with entombment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum, Church Point.

Survivors include two daughters, Janell Franques and husband Charles and Jo Ann Harmon and husband Russell- all of Church Point; seven grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. Smith and two brothers, Kossuth and Currise Broussard.

The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 6 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Wednesday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday by Monsignor De Blanc.

A retired homemaker; Mrs. Smith was a founder of the Church Point Home Demonstration Club and a member of the Woodmen of the World Camp 444, the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Ladies Altar Society, the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Quilting Group and the Church Point Rosary Group. Famous in the area for the crocheted bookmarks she gave to family and friends, Mrs. Smith will also be remembered by many former 4-H students as a volunteer teacher of sewing and quilting. Her favorite pastimes were working in her yard and telling stories to her grandchildren.
