Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, August 13, 2012 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for Lela Briscoe, 84, the former Lela Mary Colligan. Mrs. Briscoe, a native and long-time resident of Church Point, died at 8:00 A.M. Saturday, August 11 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, La. Interment will be in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Church Point following the services.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Bertrand of Branch, La.; a sister, Lillian Bergeron of Church Point; a sister-in-law, Rena Colligan of Carencro, La.; her grandchildren: Tiffany Wasson and husband Rob of Moss Bluff, La., Amanda Guidry and husband Jerry and Damian Bertrand and wife Kateri-all of Branch and Kimberly Artall and husband Joseph of Crowley, La. and her great-grandchildren: Ty, Emma and Blaise Guidry; Drake, Drewe and Kassidee Bertrand and Ella Grace Artall.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Lorena (Comeaux) Colligan; her husband, Clarence Briscoe; her son-in-law, Earl Bertrand; a brother, Joseph Colligan; a sister and brother-in-law, Nedia and Aldon Estilette and a brother-in-law, Francis Bergeron, Sr..
The family requested that visiting hours begin at11:00 A.M. Sunday, August 12 and continue uninterrupted until the time of the services on Monday. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday.

Her family relates: "Lela was a dedicated wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother; affectionately known to all of us as 'Maw'. She enjoyed her collection of Frogs and Rosaries. Being a member of the Cajun Ladies, she loved music, dancing and fun. 'Maw' never had a shortage of gum, cookies and candy for all the little ones. Even though she was always in control, she never left us without a joke or a laugh."
