Church Point, LA: Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, September 22, 2025, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Leander Richard, 97. Mr. Richard, a native and resident of Church Point, died Friday morning, September 19 at his residence. Fr. Brian Harrington, Pastor of the Church, will conduct the Services with Entombment immediately following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Hwy 35 north of Church Point.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Elkins Richard of Church Point; his daughter, Rachel Boutin and husband Leroy of Church Point; his son, John S. Richard of Lacassine, LA; his adopted granddaughter, Jessica Leonards and husband Ben of Crowley; his grandchildren, Jacques Boutin and wife Julie and Jamie Faul; his great-grandchildren: John Luke and Rhett Leonards and Gabe and Charlie Boutin and his step-great-grandchildren, Ani, Ava and Zorah Raza. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Celina Richard; a daughter, Mary Ann Richard; his brothers: Elton Richard, Joseph Elvin "Shorty" Richard and Issac Richard, Jr. and his sisters, Loretta Richard and Theresa "Teasie" Cary.
A proud, patriotic U.S. Army veteran and an exceptional salesman for Sysco Foods for over 30 years; Mr. Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Leander was active in church and civic events. He was a participant in the annual OLSH Fall Fest food booth and assisted at OMP, post-retirement. He was a board member of the Church Point Centennial Celebration Committee, a member of the Saddle Tramp Riding Club as well as a coordinator of the Church Point Mardi Gras Parade for many years. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening and had a a special love for his Beagles. A member of the American Legion Post 225 and VFW Post 9903 Honor Guard, he will be honored with A Flag Presentation and Honors Ceremony at the time of Services. Truly loved, he will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Guidry Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM on Sunday, September 21 and continue from 9:00 AM Monday until the time of Services. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM Sunday.
