Church Point, LA Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Lauris Matte, 85, the former Lauris Martinez. Mrs. Matte, a native of Vatican, LA and long-time resident of Church Point, died Friday evening, January 6 at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point. Father Godwin Nzeh will conduct the services with entombment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Hwy 35 north of Church Point. Survivors include her husband, Leo Matte of Church Point; a son, Kevin Matte and wife Wanda of Church Point; two daughters, Cynthia Soileau and husband Steve of Duson, LA and Belinda Bellard and husband Darrell of Church Point; two sisters, Dorothy Cormier and Ruby Thibodeaux and husband Ferdinand-all of Church Point; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Cecile Babineaux Martinez and two sisters, Edia Thibodeaux and Etia Lavergne. The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 1:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Monday, January 9 and continue from 8:00 A. M. Tuesday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held there at 7:00 P.M. Monday by Father Godwin. A St. John Eucharistic Minister for many years, Mrs. Matte loved doing flower arrangements, traveling and dancing with her husband of some sixty-eight years. A gracious lady, always smiling, Mrs. Matte made everyone she met feel like a friend.
