Kenneth C.
Matte
January 11, 1948 – April 1, 2024
Church Point, LA: Private Memorial Services will be held at a later date for Kenneth C. Matte who passed away on April 1, 2024 at 11:23 pm. Kenneth, a native and lifelong resident of Church Point, LA, leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Clara B. Matte; a daughter Charisse Matte and husband John Guidry; a son, Jessie P. Matte; three grandchildren, Taylor Comeaux, Leah Guidry and Tate Guidry and one great grandchild, Thomas Guidry. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Matte; his parents, Joseph Cleveland and Alita G. Matte and a brother, Glenn Ray Matte.
Kenneth was a 1966 graduate of Church Point High School and shortly after started his career in the oil field industry, which would span over the next 50 years. During his career he worked all over the United States, the Gulf of Mexico and several countries overseas, including Nigeria and Indonesia. He was proud to have worked for Superior Oil Company, Mobil Oil and Exxon Mobil. After retiring, he started his own consulting business before hanging up his hard hat for good.
Outside of work, his family was his life. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and raising his grandchild, Taylor. He also adored taking care of his two labs, Ember and Shadow. For recreation, he enjoyed spending time at his lake house, fishing and cooking.
Kenneth won a 5-year bout against Leukemia and was declared cancer free in March. In his own words, "I want to thank John and Charisse for their time driving me back and forth to Houston and the countless days they stayed with me and their constant encouragement. I want to thank Taylor for cooking me meals and helping me get through this illness." The family would like to thank all of the great nurses in the Ochsner Lafayette General ICU over the last two weeks for the great care and compassion that they provided for our father. They would also like to thank everyone for the countless texts, phone calls and prayers during this challenging time; especially Judy Ortego Matte, Velton Stelly, Charlene Patin and Linda Godeau.
Final arrangements are being handled by Guidry Funeral Home, Inc.; 219 N. Broadway, Church Point, LA (337) 684-5488. View the obituary and guest book on-line at guidryfuneralhome.com.
