Church Point, LA: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for Mrs. Joycelyn Lavergne, 75, who passed away on Sunday, April 29 at her residence. Fr. Blair Sabaricos, Pastor of St. Lawrence Church in Chacahoula, LA will be the Celebrant of the Mass and burial will take place in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery adjacent to the church. Joycelyn, a life-long resident of Church Point, was the daughter of the late Theodore Lavergne and the former Lorena Elkins. She was a beautician, seamstress and beloved homemaker throughout her life. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Julius Lavergne of Church Point; one daughter, Twila L. Cormier and husband Deacon Jim Cormier of Church Point; two sons, Donald Lavergne and wife Gina of Laplace, LA and Kendall Lavergne and wife Dana of Richard; three grandchildren, Sarah Carriere and husband David of Church Point, Matthew Lavergne of Laplace and Tyler Noecker of Deridder, LA; five step grandchildren, Jennifer Cormier of Lafayette, LA, Jeff Cormier and wife Becky of Lafayette, Sarah Anne Cormier of Church Point, David Cormier and wife Brandy of Church Point, and Camille Labbie of Richard, LA; four great grandchildren, Morgan, Hayden, Blair and Macie Carriere; eight step great grandchildren, Zach Johnson, Monet', Dawson, Livi, Blaise, Ella, J.P. and Elaine Cormier; one sister, Willa Mae Olivier and husband John 'Mickey' Olivier and two brothers, Levins Lavergne and Daniel Lavergne and wife Linda. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Donatile Thibodeaux and Lelia Colligan; two brothers, Wilbert Lavergne and Ervin Lavergne; her brothers-in-law, Onezime Thibodeaux and Thomas Colligan and her sisters-in-law, Mary Lavergne, Pearl Lavergne and Agnes Lavergne. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 1 from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM and continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the time of services. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM.
