Church Point, LA:   A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Our Lady of The Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Mrs. Joyce Matte, 96, who passed away on Saturday, April 29, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas, LA. Fr. Mitchell Guidry, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass with burial following immediately after in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Hwy 35.
Joyce, a resident of Church Point, was the daughter of the late Mr. John Richard and the former Corrine Carrier. She was a salesperson and seamstress at Fontenot and Guidry Department Store for 45 years and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and  the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. A loving mother and grandmother, Joyce loved sewing, baking and visiting with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Ann Matte Ortego and companion Velton Stelly of Opelousas, LA; nine grandchildren: Troy Matte and wife Lori, Kim Latiolais and husband Kevin, Clint and Brandon Matte, Kalley Latiolais and husband Kent, Karla Meche and husband Spencer, Kaylyn Venable and husband Brody-all of Church Point, Jessica Henke and husband Roger of Lafayette and Cory Ortego and wife Maria of Grand Rapids, MI; 20 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis Matte; her son, James Burton Matte; three sisters, Bertha Landry, Lois Boudreaux and Beverly Mounier and two brothers, Essie Richard and Culand Richard.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 2, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the time of services.
