Church Point, LA:       A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 8, 2021 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Mr. Joseph Carl Sonnier, 57, who passed away at 8:25 AM Friday, February 5, 2021 at Lafayette Surgical Center, Lafayette, LA. Rev. Patrick S. Broussard, Pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and burial will take place in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Hwy 35 North of Church Point.
Carl, a life-long resident of Church Point, was the son of the late Mr. Joseph Preston Sonnier and the former Genevieve Matte. An avid sportsman who loved hunting; he played the guitar, enjoyed singing and his grandchildren were the center of his world. A loving father and grandfather, he will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by one daughter, Joni S. Castille and husband Ben of Church Point; four sons: Bradley Sonnier and Companion Janet; Cody Sonnier and wife Andrea, Rusty Sonnier and Dusty Sonnier and wife Eve-all of Church Point; the mother of his children, Cynthia Sue Sonnier of Church Point; fourteen grandchildren: Skylar, Kaitlynn, Daelyn, Hunter, Easton, Braedyn, Lyla, Eliana, Eva, Adaleigh, Case, Caylee, Carter and Cayden; two sisters, Sue Smith and husband Arvin of Eunice and Elaine Noel and husband Javis of Church Point; two brothers, Warren Sonnier and wife Cynthia of Eunice and Tony Sonnier of Church Point and his God-Children, Jason Noel, Ashley Lopez and Maria Suire. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Bert Sonnier.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Sunday, February 7, from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM and continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until the time of funeral services.  A rosary will be recited in the funeral home Sunday evening at 6:00 PM. Pallbearers will be his children, Joni Castille and Bradley, Cody, Rusty and Dusty Sonnier and his son-in-law, Ben Castille.
