A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, February 16, 2015 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, La. for Joseph Linus Smith, 75, who passed away on Sunday, February 15 at 5:30 am at Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home.
Msgr. Jefferson J. Deblanc, Pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass with burial immediately following in the Msgr. C.A. Bienvenu Cemetery on Hwy 35 north of Church Point.
Mr. Smith, a resident of Church Point, LA was the son of the late Ernest Smith and the former Lelia Higginbotham.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Regina S. Smith of Church Point, LA; two daughters, Michelle Smith of Sunset, LA and Christine Gauthier and husband Jody of Opelousas, LA; three sons, Troy Smith and wife Karen of Church Point, Kirt Smith and wife Lisa of Arnaudville, LA and Jerome "Buddy" Smith and wife Pam of New Iberia, LA; ten grandchildren and five brothers: Harry, Gerald, Norb, Doug and Jim Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Eula Mae Gentry and one brother, Hubert Smith.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Monday, February 16 from 9:00 am until the time of service. A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 am by Deacon Bryne Winn.
A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Mr. Smith was in retail food sales for a number of years. He will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony at the time of services.
