Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 26, 2009 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Church Point for Joseph E. "Shorty" Richard, 83. Mr. Richard, a native of and long-time resident of Church Point, died at 10:40 A.M. Thursday, December 24 at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital, Church Point. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with interment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Church Point.

Survivors include two sons, Lonnie Richard and wife Donna and Todd Richard and wife Rhonda-all of Church Point; a daughter, Izetta Bearb of Church Point; a brother, Leander Richard of Church Point, La. and two sisters,Loretta Brown of Baton Rouge,La, and Teasie Cary of Church Point; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren..
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertie Richard Richard; two brothers, Elton Richard and Isaac Richard, Jr. and his parents, Isaac, Sr. and Celina Richard Richard.

The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 3:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. on Friday, December 25 and continue from 9:00 A.M. Saturday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday by Monsignor DeBlanc.
Readers will be Adrienne Horaist, Maggie Richard and Alana Brouillette. Pallbearers will be Lonnie, Todd, Ben, Timmy and Leander Richard, Bo Horaist, Monty Brouillette and Brody Bearb.

Mr. Richard, a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, was a member of VFW Post 9903, American Legion Post 225 Honor Guard, Knights of Columbus Council 2504, and the Saddle Tramp Riding Club. He will be honored with an Honor Guard Flag Presentation on the day of services.
