Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, La. for Joseph Melancon, 90. Mr. Melancon, a native of St. Martinville, La. and long-time resident of Lafayette, La., died at 5:20 A.M. Sunday, July 21 at his residence. Father Bill Melancon will conduct the services with interment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery adjacent to the church.
Survivors include a daughter, Eva Rose Melancon Trahan of Lafayette, La.; three stepsons, Ancy Meche of Carencro, La., Alvin Meche of Livingston, La. and Norwood Meche of Lafayette; two stepdaughters, Marie Abshire of Lafayette and Judy Gautreaux of Cecelia, La.; a brother, Antoine Melancon of St. Martinville; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and thirteen step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rene Melancon and wife Euchariste; his wife, Mary Meche Melancon; five brothers; five sisters and a stepson, Lesley Meche.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, July 22 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Tuesday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Monday by Deacon Bryne Winn.
Mr. Melancon was a retired sheet metal worker who belonged to Sheet Metal Local #21 in Baton Rouge, La.
