Obituary

Church Point, LA:     On the morning of Friday, August 21, 2020, Joe left for his last trail ride. He will be sorely missed, but never forgotten, by his family and friends he leaves behind. His optimism and excitement for trail riding, deer hunting, Courir de Mardi Gras, tractors and horses endeared him to those who knew him. Joe has for years been under the wonderful care of the Acadia-St Landry Guest Home, but always maintained that "when he got out" he would resume those activities. He is finally free to watch and enjoy those activities from above. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 22 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for Joe, a native and long-time resident of the town. Reverend Patrick Broussard, pastor of the church, will be the celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the entombment in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Hwy 35 north of Church Point.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Charles Wimberley and wife Lola of Mandeville, LA, Florine Daigle and husband Edgar of Church Point, Gertrude Broach of Church Point, Chester Wimberley and wife Doreen of Eunice, LA, Roy Wimberley and wife Geraldine of Church Point, Linda Champion and husband Nick of Baton Rouge, LA, Lee Wimberley and wife Hope of Church Point, Rick Wimberley and wife Saundra of Youngsville, LA and numerous extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Lee "Blanc" Wimberley, Sr. and Lilly Richard Wimberley; a brother and sister-in-law, Bernard Wimberley and wife Charlotte and a sister-in-law, Betty Darbonne Wimberley. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 12:30 PM by Reverend Broussard. The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of the Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home, Doctors Williams, Felton and Hargroder and HOPE Hospice for the love and care they gave to Joe during his stay. Guidry Funeral Home, 219 N. Broadway St., Church Point, LA is in charge of final arrangements.
