Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, July 10, 2009 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for Joseph Harry Doucet, Sr., 78. Mr. Doucet, a native and life-long resident of Church Point, died at 5:05 A.M. Wednesday, July 8 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center; Lafayette, La. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with entombment following in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum; Highway 35, Church Point.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Lee Venable Doucet of Church Point; seven sons: Albert Doucet and wife Elaine, J.B. Doucet and wife Peggy, Michael Doucet and wife Brenda and Malcolm Doucet and wife Mimi-all of Church Point; Emery Doucet and wife Naomi of Alamogordo, N.M.; Charles Ray Doucet of Island Lake, Ill. and Harry Doucet, Jr. and wife Gayle of Bossier City, La.; two daughters, Catherine Doucet and Belinda Manuel and husband Todd both of Church Point. Mr. Doucet is also survived by two brothers, Darrell Doucet and wife Mary Ann of Opelousas, La. And Adam Doucet and wife Barbara of Church Point and five sisters: Carrie Belleau and husband Hubert of Chataignier, La., Evelina Owens and husband Jim of Rayne, La., Leona Lavergne and husband Linus of Lafayette, Eda Daigle of Rayne and Theresa Benoit and husband Eldon of Church Point. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam Doucet, Sr. and Lucia Sonnier Doucet.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 11:00 A.M. until 10:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 9 and continue from 9:00 A.M. Friday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday by Deacon Bryne Winn.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Doucet was a member of American Legion Post 225 for some fifty years. He will be honored with a Flag Presentation at the time of services.
