Church Point, LA: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 PM Thursday, July 19, 2018 at St. Edward Catholic Church in Richard, LA for Mr. Joseph "Joey" Donnel McGee, 61, who passed away on Monday, July 16. Fr. Wayne Duet, Pastor of St. Edward Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and burial will take place in St. Edward Cemetery adjacent to the church. Joey, a resident of Richard, Louisiana, is the son of the late Donnel Dean McGee and Elizabeth Sylvia Briscoe McGee. He is survived by his son, Scott Anthony Richard and his wife, Dawn Harrington Richard and a granddaughter, Harmoni Skotlyn Richard; his three sisters, Caroline McGee and Allan Graubard of New York City, NY, Donna McGee Onebane and Neal Onebane of Lafayette, LA, and Elizabeth Smith of Eunice, LA; one brother, Gary McGee of Lafayette, LA; nephews and nieces, Bo Matkowsky, Eve Onebane Russell, Jake Onebane, Karen Smith, Lauren McGee, Jordan McGee, Ryan McGee, Alexis Smith, Bryce McGee and Connor McGee; ten great nephews and nieces, Hillary Mouton, Phoebe Mouton, Charlie Russell, Dean Onebane, Baer Onebane, Brennon Smith, Keelie Guidry, Kolten Desormeaux and Aiden Comeaux. He was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Theresa McGee and a niece, Angelle Smith. Joey began his career farming rice and crawfish as a teenager, learning the trade handed down by his father and grandfather, Remie McGee, Sr. Later in life, he was a medical courier for Blaze, Inc. Most recently he was a loving and devoted son who served as a caretaker for his 89-year-old mother who has survived him. Joey was a true original, a one-of-a kind person who loved the study of history and current events, never missing an opportunity for debate. He cherished his family and was never afraid to show his affection to everyone who would allow him. Though his life was filled with many health challenges, he faced them with great courage and perseverance. He will be dearly missed. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 18 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and continue on Thursday from 9:00 AM until the time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening in the funeral home.
