Church Point, La. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Family Life Christian Church; 2223 Dulles Drive, Scott, La. for Mrs. John (Norma "Tut") Downs, Jr., the former Norma Jean Leger. Mrs. Downs, who died at 4:19 A.M. Sunday, August 21 at her residence in rural St. Landry parish near Sunset, La., was a native and life-long resident of the parish. Pastor Todd Menard will conduct the services with disposition of the remains to be determined by the family.
Survivors include her husband of fifty years, John H.E. Downs, Jr.; her sons, Kevin Downs and wife Christine of Scott and John H.E. Downs III and wife Christine of Covington, La.; her daughter, Ann Downs Keeley of Rayne, La.; her brothers, Jake "Buster" Leger and wife Barbara of Sunset and Leon Leger and wife Betty of Carencro, La.; her sisters: Dean Chauvin of Carencro, Lee L. Miller of Florida and Leona Sue Leger of Scott; her grandchildren: Kevin, Jr. and Christopher Downs of Scott, Zack Downs of Gonzales, Asha Downs of Sunset and Taysha Downs of Covington, Ashley Prejean and husband Mike of Mire, La. and Stephanie and Steve Tabb, Jr. of Rayne; a great-grandson, Keagan Prejean and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Lena (Revere) Leger; a sister, Geraldine Leger and a son-in-law, Daniel "Beetle" Keeley.
"Tut" was a loving wife and mother of three. Employed at "Vautrot's Mini-Mart" for some fifteen years, she loved shopping, playing cards and spending time with friends and family. A loving "Granny" and "Great Granny", she would always ask her grandkids and great-grandson if they had "pockets". She would then give them a dollar.
